American Idol: Top 5 Elimination

Alright everyone! Nanny Brooke is FINALLY gone!!!!!!! Who's happy??? Me! After all, sh's been hanging on the edge of an invisible cliff for weeks now. One of these days she would have to fall. And that day was yesterday, leaving in our top four: David Cook, David Archuleta, Syesha Mercado, and of course my boy, Jason Castro!

Some predictions for Rock N' Roll week (next week):

David Cook- He's pretty much a rock n' roll guy so he shouldn't be worried. Personally, I'm hoping for a serious mess up because I'm really starting to get sick of his pompous 'look-at-me' grin.

David Archuleta- He doesn't really seem to be a rock n' roll sort of guy but then again, he's never seemed to be an anything kind of guy and yet he manages not only to perform well but wow everyone in the process. In other words, he has nothing to worry about. The child prodigy has only to snap his fingers and he's done.

Syesha Mercado- Look at this! Miss "I have neither a personality nor a fan base" is still in this competition! Please don't get me wrong, I like Syesha a lot and I think she's very talented but she's starting to jeopardize my man's (Jason, of course) position a little so I'm hoping either she somehow manages to sound really bad or her non-existent fans "pull through" for her.

Jason Castro- Finally we have come to my favorite subject! His performances on Tuesday were once again just okay. I think that he hit the nail right on the head in his answer to Ryan's question on Wednesday night. Seacrest asked my rather nervous looking boy, "What do you have to say about Simon's comment last night about looking back and not recognizing yourself?" Jason, who by now was sporting the anxious version of his laidback grin, replied, "I guess he was right. I mean, I realized that the weeks I've gotten the best criticism have been the times I either sang a song I already knew or really changed around a lot." I couldn't have said it better myself. He's basically told himself what he needs to do so please, Jason, go do it!

And now, I'll end by giving you yet another version of the closing I say every time, sit back and hope for the best!

American Idol: Top 5 Performances

Okay, here we are again, top five have performed Neil Diamond and elimination is gaining on us with every second. Tuesday recaps anyone?

Jason Castro- Sang "Forever in Blue Jeans" and "September Morn." Did just okay in the opinion of the judges and he again didn't take the song and make it his own like we all know he can do. But hopefully his fan base will rescue him!

David Cook- Sang "I'm Alive" and "All I really Need is You." The first song was "just above average' in Simon's words. The second was brilliant in the words of all three judges.

Brooke White- Sang "I'm a Believer" (how did we guess?" and "I Am...I Said." First performance was truly a nightmare as Simon said. The second was much better but to tell you the truth, that's not saying much.

David Archuleta- Sang "Sweet Caroline" and "Coming to America". Both were amazing as usual. The judges didn't seem too enthralled but he will obviously be fine.

Syesha Mercado- Sang "Hello Again" and "Thank the Lord for the Nighttime." Sounded great but with her low fan base and Broadway sounding performances, she'd better start fearing for her life, as Simon so gracefully pointed out.

All you can do now is vote and pray that it will all turn out fine for your favorite!

American Idol: Top 5 Performance Predictions

Hello again! We're already fast approaching another week of Idol and I'm sure everyone's getting excited. I just wanted to make a few predictions about Neil Diamond week performances:
1) Neil Diamond should be a good genre for Jason Castro. I'm hoping he'll use this to his advantage to pull himself back up to the top (where he belongs :)

2) Brooke really needs to start upping her performances if she intends to stay around. She is still on the show because she puts a lot of emotion into her songs but altogether, they are rather bland.

3) Syesha, because of her small fan base, needs to make another stunning performance like that of last week if she wants to stick around for another week.

4) The Davids will most likely be amazing again and they shouldn't have to worry about sailing through to the next "round".

So, with the Top 5 performances getting closer every second, let's watch and hope for the best!

American Idol: Top 6 Elimination

Alright, everyone, who's shocked? I know I am. I was so certain that last night was Brooke's last night! Not that I'm disappointed about Carly leaving. I couldn't be more pleased; Carly has been rubbing me the wrong way for the past three weeks and I am relieved she's finally finished.

A few observations:

1) Brooke and Jason weren't even in the bottom two! I was very surprised. I thought for certain Jason would have to scrape by and Brooke would be finished! But America decided to put an interesting spin on things.

2) Syesha was in the bottom two! I didn't expect that at all because she did so well on Tuesday. I think the primary reason for this is that she has a very small fan base. Most of the time, she doesn't show much personality in her songs and people don't connect with her. That is most likely the reason she was in the bottom two.

3) David Cook and David Archuleta were immediately saved. They will, without a doubt, be the top two, as much as I hate to say it.

So, all we can do now is sit tight and wait for another week!

American Idol: Top 6 Performances

Well ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of the week again. That's right, elimination! A recap of Tuesday night, which was themed Andrew Lloyd Webber:

Syesha Mercado started out the night with a lively performance of "One Rock n' Roll too Many". She was very successful and even blew away all three judges. From here, though, the night began to decline. Judges: Randy- :) Paula- :) (of course) Simon- :)

Jason Castro then sang his rendition of "Memories" from Cats which was probably the most daring pick of the whole night. It was a relief for me that it turned out neither amazing nor horrible, ending up somewhere between good and average. I think the reason it came out as "bad" was that Jason always does a great job connecting and personalizing the songs he sings. So, when he doesn't connect, it seems a lot worse than it really is. Judges: Randy- :( Paula- :) Simon- :/

Brooke White came third, singing "You Must Love Me" from Evita. She seats herself on the stage, the orchestra begins, and she promptly forgets the lyrics. She stuttered an apology and started over. She managed to plow her way through with no more mistakes but her performance was strained and weak. She put quite a bit of emotion into it but her voice was shaky after her first mistake. Judges: Randy- :( Paula- :( (oh no, Brooke's done for!) Simon- :(

David Archuleta came next, with a pop version of "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera. His voice and easy going style strengthened his performance and he came out of it none the worse for wear. Judges: Randy- :) Paula- :) Simon- :/

After the Boy Wonder, Carly Smithson "graced" us with her rendition of "Jesus Christ Superstar" from the musical of the same name. As usual, she blew out our eardrums with some loud, almost yelling vocals, and overall, an okay performance. Judges: Randy-:) Paula- :) Simon- :/

Finishing up the show was David Cook who, for some unknown reason, decided to sing "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera. As I've said previously, I find his voice agitating and harsh but I also must say, it was a fairly good performance. Judges: Randy- :) Paula- :) Simon- :/

Overall, it was a mixed bag; the bottom three tonight will be Brooke, obviously, Carly, and unfortunately, Jason. But there is no question in my mind who the curtain will close on. The white lights are dimming for someone in particular.

American Idol: Top 6

So, here we are! For all you American Idol fans, we're getting close to the final hours! I'm curious about who will win, who will be runner up, who will make top three, and so on. I'm sure you are too. But before everything is laid out, I have a few predictions:

1) Brooke White - will be voted off next week. She should have gone home last night, in my opinion, but she squeaked by somehow. She's good but no longer good enough.

2)
Syesha Mercado - my favorite of the females. I liked Kristy Lee Cook the best, mostly because she has that country twang that I love but her time with us ran out. I do not, however, think that Syesha will be around long either.

3) Carly Smithson - I personally greatly dislike Carly. She does have a good range but I think she has issues with song choice. She seems to be very popular with voters, though, from what I've noticed. I think that with some luck, she'll be voted off right after Brooke.

4)
David Cook - Alright, let's get down to business. He has a good voice, beyond good actually, but I don't like his style. He seems too cocky and often times even pompous. I think he has a lot of potential to win based on his talent and popularity with a lot of voters because of his "personality". I think that it is inevitable that he will be in the top two.

5) David Archuleta - So, we have finally met Mr. Perfection. In the eyes of America, he can do no wrong. He has definitely clinched a spot in the top two. I like him a lot, he has an amazing voice and a sweet stage presence that gives him an edge. Besides, he has all the teenyboppers on his side!

6) Last (but absolutely NOT least)
Jason Castro - Well, what can I say. If I had my way, I crown him Idol right now. Sadly, I think he's doomed to go home as Top 3. He is very distinguishable from the other competitors because of his "ethereal" voice and his guitar talent. (Not to mention the fact that he plays ukulele :) He is wonderfully unique and refreshing. But, the Davids most likely will beat him.

Summary: The males have this competition under their belts. They are very talented, have great stage presence, and charm that will easily get them the top 3 spots. So, sorry, ladies, but you don't stand a chance. In a perfect world, the order of departures will be: Brooke, Carly, Syesha. Then we'll have Jason, David A, and David C in the top 3. As sad as it is, Jason will not have much of a chance against the beloved Davids and he will go home (sniff, sniff). After that point, it's impossible to tell who will take home the title. I'm hoping for David A but there's really no way to be sure.

So, there are my predictions for Season 7 American Idol. Enjoy!
